May Allah's ﷻ peace and blessings be upon Prophet Hadrat Ismael عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ -
From the Qasas Al-Anbiya series, our topic today is based on the blessed life of Prophet Ismael and the upcoming article will be based on Prophet Jacob's PBUH life.
Prophet Ibrahim was above 85 years of age but less than 90 years. Once Hazrat Sarah said to Prophet Ibrahim: Do not expect me to have children and you should marry Hajer so that my grief may be removed. Hazrat Sarah insisted on this and somehow persuaded Prophet Ibrahim to marry Hazrat Hajer. And only nine months after the marriage, Prophet Hazrat Ismail was born. Hazrat Sarah took Prophet Ismail in her arms with love.
Prophet Ismail use to live with Hazrat Sarah. Some time passed and slowly Hazrat Sarah started getting jealousy in her heart so she got angry and said to Prophet Ibrahim, get these two out of the house. The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) explained a lot to Hazrat Sarah but he did not listen to Prophet Ibrahim. So the Prophet Ibrahim prayed to Allah and Allah said: Do as Sarah says. So they both rode on camels and took the floors.
And reached the same place where the Kabah is at the moment. Prophet Ibrahim was commanded by Allah to leave Prophet Ismail and Hazrat Hajer at that place. There was no creature at that place and no water or food. At that time Prophet Hazrat Ismail (AS) was 2 years or 3 years old. Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) left them there with a few loaves of bread, a pot of water and a bag of dates.
Hazrat Hajer asked Prophet Ibrahim with whom are you leaving me and your son here? Even here there is neither food nor water. But Prophet Ibrahim did not even look back, so Hazrat Hajer herself said, is this on the command of Allah or are you doing it of your own free will? Prophet Ibrahim said, hearing this is the order of Allah, he said that now there is nothing to worry about, Allah is our guide and protector.
Prophet Ibrahim (as) was about 90 years old when Prophet Ismail (as) was born and was about 32 years old when Nimrod put him in the fire. When Hazrat Ibrahim (PBUH) reached the cover of the mountain and realized that now Hazrat Hajer will not see, then raise both hands towards the Kaba and pray O Allah! I have settled my child and wife near your holy place where there is no farming so that they can continue the prayers.
O My Lord, turn the hearts of the people towards them. give them the provision of fruits so that they may be thankful, O my Lord, You know best. And kept feeding the baby, but when everything was over. She was worried that the milk for the baby was too dry and even the baby began to suffer from thirst and hunger. Hazrat Hajer was very upset. She ran here and there in search of water but even there was no sign of water from far away.
Safa mountain was very close and when she reached there, she looked here and there, but there was no water and no trace too. When nothing was seen, She walked towards Marwa to find some traces of water, there was a drain on the way and a low part of the land. When she started passing from there, Ismail disappeared from sight, so he ran impatiently and decided that part of the land. When she reached the low ground, Ismail disappeared from sight again.
So she ran again thus she circled 7 times in search of water. In the seventh round, a voice came on Marwa hill. Don't be afraid and listen to the sound and listen well. When the caller became silent, Hazrat Hajer said, “O you who make noise, if you can fulfill my need, do it. She ran quickly and reached Prophet Ismail, and saw an angel hitting his feather on the ground and clean water was flowing near Ismail's ankles.
When Hazrat Hajer tied the mound to stop the water, the water accumulated like a pool. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah had mercy on the parents of Prophet Ismail. If they had not hastily left this water in its condition, the spectacles would have continued and this water would have been enough for the world. At last, the water continued, she drank and fed the child.
An angel reassured him not to be afraid in any way, Allah the Almighty is your guide and the protector. Pointing to the Kaba, the angel said that this place is the home of this child, when he grows up, he will build a house here with his father. The owner of this house never leaves anyone in his condition, stay here with satisfaction. Hazrat Hajer thanked Allah. At that time the Kaaba was like a ruddy mound.
5 days after this incident a tribe named Bani Jarham passed from the site which was coming from Yemen. They saw that some birds were flying in this area near the mound of the Kaba. The Chieftain of the tribe said, We have passed through here many times but never seen this, so we should go there and see. When they went there, they saw a strange thing, a woman was sitting with a child on her lap and the water was flowing from the ground.
The chief of the convoy asked to stay there. When asked for permission, Hazrat Hajer granted them permission. The convoys stayed and later civilized there. During this long time, Prophet Ibrahim decided to see Prophet Ismail and Hazrat Hajer. He said to Hazrat Sarah: So he gave permission on the condition that he go but do not get off the ride for so long. So when Prophet Ibrahim came there. This place was now civilized.
Hazrat Hajer recognized Prophet Ibrahim from afar and brought him to the house and said to Hazrat Ismail: He is your father. Hazrat Hajer requested that if you get off the ride, then I should wash your head, beard, hands and feet. Prophet Ibrahim said: I have promised Hazrat Sarah that I will not get off the ride, so she brought a stone and washed your feet on it. The footprints of both the steps were marked in the stone at that time.
This stone is still there today in Makkah and is known as Maqam Al-Ibrahim. However, Prophet Ibrahim returned to Palestine. Prophet Ibrahim often used to come to meet Prophet Ismael and Hajer. Prophet Ismael was now 13 years old. One night he had a dream in which a man approached him and said, "Sacrifice your child, this is the command of your Lord." When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) woke up from his sleep.
He took his dream and fell into deep thought and in this state, it would be evening. This was the 8th Dhu Al-Hijjah. The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) dreamed the same for two more nights. Then when it was morning, Prophet Ibrahim asked permission from Hazrat Sarah and left for the Kaba. He reached the Kaba and said to Hazrat Hajer, bath and comb Ismael, put antimony in his eyes. Hazrat Hajer did as per the order.
Prophet Ibrahim took a rope and a knife and took his son to the place of sacrifice. Satan came to Hazrat Hajer and said do you know where Prophet Ibrahim has taken your child Ismael? He said, he has gone to get firewood. he did not say that he will slaughter him, Hazrat Hajer said he is his father, he will never do that, he did not say that he thinks that Allah has commanded him to do this, Hazrat Hajer said, If it is Allah's command, it is necessary to fulfill it.
On hearing this Satan ran away and came to Prophet Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him) and said O boy do you know where your father is taking you? Prophet Ismail said: Father is taking me to this mountain from his work, he said take this thought out of your heart but he'll kill you. Ismail said Why would he do that? Satan said that he understands that it is the command of Allah. Ismail said: It is necessary to do it when it is the command of Allah.
And I am satisfied. On hearing this Satan ran away from here and came to Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him). When Satan came to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and said where are you going? He said: I will go to this mountain for my work, the devil said that maybe the devil has come to you who has led you astray and now you are going to slaughter your son. The Prophet Ibraham recognized him by this statement of Satan and said:
O rebel against Allah, let me alone, indeed I will do as my lord command me. After a while, the satan came again and tried to seduce but Prophet Ibrahim attacked him 7 times with pebbles so he ran away but came again after a while and wanted to stop Prophet Ibrahim from obeying Allah. The Prophet Ibrahim hit him again 7 times with pebbles. Satan ran away again but the Satan came again for the third time.
And then he was hit by pebbles by Prophet Ibrahim again so Satan did not return for the fourth time. When the Prophet Ibrahim (peace and be upon him) reached the place of sacrifice, he said to his beloved son Prophet Isma'il, "O my son, I have been commanded by Allah to slaughter you in Allah's way." Do you agree with me on this action? Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him) pleaded: Baba, do what you have been commanded, if Allah wills, you will find me patient.
It is narrated that Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihis Salam laid his son on the ground with his forehead on his forehead, that if love does not ignite passion and can not fulfill the command of Allah. When Prophet Ibrahim intended to sacrifice, Prophet Ismail requested, "O my Father, tie my hands and feet by the rope. So that it is easier for you to slaughter me, and also protect your clothes from my blood and sharpen the knife so that it is quick to slaughter.
And I can die easily and when you return to home Say hello to my mother and if appropriate give my clothes to my mother. Maybe she will be satisfied with that. However, Prophet Ibrahim put the knife on the neck of Prophet Ismail and started stabbing quickly him in the neck. And as soon as Prophet Ibrahim started stabbing, Allah replaced Ismail with a lamb. So the Prophet Ibrahim sacrificed that lamb.
And then Allah said to Prophet Ibrahim through Jibreel: O Ibrahim! Surely you have passed our test and we accepted your sacrifice. Of course, this is how we reward our bondmen.
Then both Prophets returned to their home. When the Prophet Ismail reached the age of 14, he was married to Amara, the daughter of the chieftain of the Bani Jarham tribe. After a while, Hadrat Hajer passed away. After some time after the death of Hazrat Hajer, Prophet Ibrahim came to Mecca to meet Prophet Ismail but he wasn't at home.
Prophet Ibrahim found that Hazrat Hajer has passed away & his son is now married. Prophet Ibrahim asked Prophet Ismail's wife, Amara Bint Jarahamiya, where her husband has gone? She replied: he has gone on hunting and will return by dawn. Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) asked how's the condition of your house? She replied that our life is going through a very difficult time. And when she complained.
Prophet Ibrahim said to her: When your husband returns home, greet him on my behalf. And also to say that the threshold of your door is not worthy of you so change it. Saying this, Abraham (peace be upon him) departed from there, and soon after he left, Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon him) returned home and his wife said to him: An old man came here. He asked me about you. I said that Ismael would return home in the evening.
And then the old man said: When Ismael returns home, tell him that the threshold of your door is not worthy of you, so change it. Prophet Ismail replied: He was my father Prophet Ibrahim and has commanded me to divorce you so I divorce you. After some time of this divorce, Prophet Ismail got married to another daughter of the tribe Bani Jarham. Her name was Hala.
After the interpretation of a period, Prophet Ibrahim came to Mecca again to meet his son Ismael, but this time also Prophet Ismael was not at home and had gone on hunting. Prophet Ibrahim called Prophet Ismael's wife and asked about Ismael's PBUH. Prophet Ishmael's wife asked Prophet Ibrahim to come inside the house. Then Hazrat Hala cleaned the head, hands and feet of Prophet Ibrahim and combed his hair.
Then Prophet Ibrahim asked Hazrat Hala about the condition of their house. She replied that We are thankful to Allah. We are living very happily. Knowing this, Prophet Ibrahim was very happy and he blessed Hazrat Hala a lot. And at last Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) said: When Ismael (Ishmael) returned home, tell him that the threshold of your house is very good and worthy to you so you have to take good care of it.
When Prophet Ismael returned home in the evening, he asked his wife if anyone had come here today. Hazrat Hala said: "An old man with a bright face came here and asked me about you so I said you are not at home and had gone on hunting. I asked him to come inside the house and I served him and washed his head, hand and feet. As he left, he blessed me a lot." At last, the old man said to me:
"When Ismail returns tell him that the threshold of his door is very good and worthy to him so take good care of it." Prophet Ismail replied: He was my beloved father Prophet Ibrahim and has been recommended in your favor. And you are the doorstep, so I must take care of you. A few days later, Prophet Ibrahim went to Mecca again to meet his beloved son Prophet Ishmael.
When Prophet Ibrahim came to the house of Prophet Ishmael, he saw Prophet Ishmael was setting his arrows while sitting in the shade of a tree near the spring of Zamzam. As soon as Prophet Ishmael's eyes fell on his beloved father Prophet Ibrahim, he ran away to Prophet Ibrahim and hugged him and they both began to weep. Both father and son wept together in such a way that even birds started crying at their voice.
