Qasas Al-Anbiya: Prophet Jacob عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ -
In the blessed name of Allah ﷻ the Almighty who is well acquainted with the inner and outer -
May Allah's ﷻ blessings be upon dear readers. The team Nizam Al-Alam warmly welcomes you. I am Your Host, Zulqarnayn Muhammad Sulayman and now you are at Nizam Al-Alam. Let's start reading it by reciting Durood on our beloved Imam Al-Anbiya ﷺ. Allah the Almighty bestows his blessings and mercy on the reciter 10 times.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ صَلُّواْ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُواْ تَسْلِيمًا
May Allah's ﷻ peace and blessings be upon Prophet Hadrat Jacob عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ -
From the Qasas Al-Anbiya series, our topic today is based on the blessed life of Prophet Jacob and the upcoming article will be based on Prophet Joseph's (Yousuf) PBUH life.
As our dear readers were told in the last episode of Prophet Lot and Prophet Abraham that the gospel of the birth and of his son Prophet Ishaq and grandson Prophet Jacob had already been given to their grandfather Prophet Abraham. Hadrat Sarah was also told that her son Ishaq and grandson Jacob will be granted the gift of prophecy. Prophet Jacob had fifteen years of companionship with his grandfather Prophet Abraham.
Prophet Ishaq remained in Canaan from birth to death. Prophet Abraham married his son Prophet Ishaq to Rebecca in Ur Kasdim (Ur of Chaldees) which was the birthplace of Prophet Abraham. Hadrat Rafiqa gave birth to her two sons Esau and Jacob together. Esau had a lot of hair on his body from birth. And the second son, who was holding the heel of his brother Esau, was named Jacob.
Although the time of birth of both is the same, the one whom the people have given the right to be elder is Esau. When the two reached the age of 13, the differences between them became obvious. Prophet Jacob used to engage in Ibadah but Esau used to be busy hunting and playing. When they both became young, Esau had become an expert in hunting but Prophet Jacob used to worship, as he used to do in his childhood.
Prophet Isaac became very weak in his last days. Once Prophet Ishaq said aloud, O Esau! Bring me the good food and feed me. I will make especially Duaa for this work of yours. So Esau went out hunting but Hadrat Rebecca cooked meat and said to her son Prophet Jacob, "Your Father is hungry, offer the meat to him." So when the Prophet Ishaq ate the meat, he understood that this meat was not brought by Esau.
Prophet Isaac seated his son beside him and kissed his forehead and grant his blessings to him and prayed for him. "May Allah give you superiority over my family. May Allah bless you with heavenly and earthly blessings. May Allah bless your provision. May the nations bow down before you and tribes be your servant. May Allah destroy him whoever curses you. May Allah bestow his blessings to the person whoever is kind to you".
However, After a while, Esau returned from hunting and immediately roast the meat and offered it to Prophet Ishaq. The Prophet Ishaq said, "I have eaten and prayed for him, surely he will be blessed. But I also pray to God for your descendants. On hearing this, Esau became angry and began to shout aloud at his brother Prophet Jacob. Since Hadrat Rebecca and Prophet Isaac knew that Esau is not worthy of the blessings by any means.
He used to hunt all day but not do Ibadah. He married women, who were not Muslims. and Jacob had been blessed with prophecy, he had this task done by his son Jacob and blessed and prayed for him. He used to hunt all day but not worship. From that day on, Esau became jealous of Jacob & became angry with him. And even plotted to kill Jacob. When Hadrat Rebecca learned of Esau's displeasure with Jacob, she told Prophet Ishaq about it.
So Jacob's parents told him not to marry a Canaanite woman because we do not know what her faith is. So go to your uncle Laban (Laban was the brother of Hadrat Rebecca) in Harran and get married to one of his daughters. So the Prophet Jacob set out for Harran (Harran was 280 miles northeast of Damascus at that time). When it was night, Prophet Jacob stayed at a place and intended to spend the night.
Therefore, Prophet Jacob fell asleep with his head on a rock. That night, Prophet Jacob dreamed that there was a stair that went from the earth to the heavens, from which angels were coming and going. He heard a voice: O Jacob, Indeed I am the God of you, of your father Isaac and of your father Abraham. Where you lie down, this is the homeland of your children. they will grow up here. And you will return to Canaan again.
So when Prophet Jacob awoke from his sleep, he lifted the stone and raised it like a pillar on the ground. And pour olive oil over it. However, Prophet Jacob reached out to Harran. And stopped there by a well. There Prophet Jacob asked a man if he knew Laban. The man said yes, Laban lives here & at this time of the day, He comes to this well to water his goats. The two were talking to each other and Laban came there.
The prophet Jacob moved quickly and removed the stone from the top of the well and watered Laban's goats. And removing Laban's surprise, Prophet Jacob said, "I am your nephew." Laban hugged his nephew and was very happy to meet him. Laban took Prophet Jacob to his home & a month had passed since the Prophet Jacob lived in his uncle Laban's house. Then Laban asked his nephew how and why he got here.
Prophet Jacob said: I want to marry your younger daughter Rachel. Laban told Prophet Jacob, "You will have to herd my goats for seven years." In the eighth year, Prophet Jacob got married to his maternal uncle's daughter. Therefore, when the Prophet Jacob went to his wife's room, he saw that his uncle married him to his elder daughter Leah. Therefore, Prophet Jacob said to his uncle, "I asked you for your younger daughter's relationship.
But why did you do this to me?" Laban said: How can I marry my youngest daughter to someone before the elder daughter? Now if you want to marry my younger daughter you will have to herd my goats for another seven years. Prophet Jacob agreed and for seven more years, he grazed his uncle's goats. Then Prophet Jacob got married to Hadrat Rachel. Hadrat Rachel was unique both in beauty and character.
Hadrat Leah's eyesight was weak and she was also physically weak. While all the sons born to Hadrat Leah were incomparable in strength and power. Prophet Jacob had two sons from Hadrat Rachel - Prophet Joseph and Benyamin. Hadrat Leah had seven, six sons and a daughter - Judah, Simeon, Reuben, Levi, Issachar and Zebulun were sons and Dinah was the daughter. Hadrat Rachel and Hadrat Leah gifted their maids to Prophet Jacob.
Prophet Jacob had four sons from both of them. From Zilpah - Gad and Asher and From Bilhah Dan and Naphtali. From these twelve sons, twelve tribes came into existence. Only Benjamin was born in Canaan, and all the other sons were born in Harran. One day Prophet Jacob was grazing goats but due to exhaustion, he fell asleep with his head on a rock. At that time, Prophet Jacob had reached about 40 years of his age.
He heard a voice: Wake up, O Israel! Indeed, I am your God. I command you to return to Canaan. Now it is time to announce your prophecy. (Isra means Slave and eel or el means Allah so Israel means bondman of Allah. Therefore, The Prophet Jacob was given the name Israel by Allah.) So the Prophet Jacob returned to Canaan with his family. On the way, the Prophet Jacob stayed for a while, This area was within the borders of Canaan.
Today the area is located between the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea. When the news of this caravan of Prophet Jacob reached Esau, he came here with his 400 companions. Jacob Prophet said to Esau, "I am your brother Jacob." I have lived with uncle Laban for 20 years and now I am back in Canaan. And I give all these cattle as a gift to you. Esau dismounted from his horse and came to the Prophet Jacob and hugged him and then took him home.
Prophet Jacob stayed in his house for a month. And set out for Canaan again. Esau said to Prophet Jacob: Allah has exalted you with the high place of prophecy so make Duaa for me and my descendants. Esau got married to the daughter of his uncle Prophet Ismael. From whom five sons were born to Esau. One of these sons was named Rome. Therefore, all the inhabitants and kings of Rome are descended from him.
The age of Prophet Jacob and his brother Esau reached the age of 145 years. Just as they two were born together, so the two died together on the same day and same time. And the graves of the two were also built nearby. However, Prophet Jacob bought land at various places along the way going to Canaan. And reached that place where Prophet Ishaq was in Hebron. Here in Canaan Benjamin was born.
Forty days after Benjamin's birth, Hadrat Rachel (peace be upon her) died. When Prophet Jacob returned to Canaan, the king of Canaan said to Prophet Jacob, "How dare you enter Canaan without my permission. Prophet Jacob said to the king, "I am the prophet of God. I have returned here by his command." And I invite you and your people to swear allegiance to me, and that is good for you. The king replied angrily what will you do if I disobey you?
Prophet Jacob replied I'll fight you with the help of the Almighty. Each time the king turned down Prophet Jacob's invitation to faith and disobeyed him. So the prophet Jacob sent his son Simeon to fight the Canaanite king. Simeon went alone to the gate of the castle and sat down and make Duaa to Allah, O Allah! Make it easy for us to conquer this battle. Indeed, Thou art the Mighty, the Wise. Indeed, Thou art the giver of victory.
In the name of Allah, the Lord of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Saying this, Simeon hit his right foot on the gate of the castle. This caused an earthquake in the fort and the walls of the fort collapsed. Most of the people were crushed to death and the king also reached his end. Hadrat Jacob was the prophet of Canaan. He preached to his nation for 57 years. Canaan was situated between two great mountains.
When the population of Canaanites increased, the land of Canaan became scarce for its inhabitants. The Canaanites came to Prophet Jacob with the complaint. When Prophet Jacob pointed to the mountains, then the mountains slipped away from their places & the land in between would be very wide & when the Prophet Jacob reached about 97 of his age he migrated to Egypt. Prophet Jacob remained there for 50 years.
When Judah went to fight Amalek, his shield was broken. And Judah called out to his father Prophet Jacob while living on the battlefield and Prophet Jacob threw a shield toward Judah. While living in the Canaan. And Judah caught that. While the distance from Canaan to the battlefield was about 200 miles.
